Security Update - We are discontinuing email verification

To ensure your investments are protected by the highest level of security, Questrade is replacing the use of email verification codes with Sign-in Approval.

Sign-in Approval is a modern, mobile-based verification method to ensure your account remains safe from evolving cyber threats.

Why are we making this change?

Email-based security codes pose a risk because your email is often the key to your online life. If your email is compromised, attackers can intercept codes and reset passwords, neutralizing your existing security measures.

To enhance your account's security and prevent unauthorized access, we are transitioning the verification method from email to mobile device. We will continue to support Authenticator apps, SMS/Voice one-time passcode (OTP) and mobile Sign-in Approval.

If you already use Phone OTP (SMS/Voice) or an Authenticator app

You're all set. No action needed.

If you use email verification codes

You’ll need to use an alternative method to receive your verification code

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Go to Settings > Security 2-step verification.
  3. Enable one of the secure methods below:
    • Sign-in Approval: This new feature allows you to approve logins instantly over Wi-Fi via our mobile apps—providing stronger protection without the need for cellular roaming.
Ensure you have the latest version of QuestMobile or Edge Mobile. You will be prompted to enable Sign-in Approval the next time you log in to the app
    • Phone OTP: Receive codes via SMS or Voice.
    • Authenticator App: Use a third-party app (like Google/Microsoft Authenticator) for your codes. Learn how to set up.
