IPO
SpaceX is going public. Here's how to trade it.
SpaceX (SPCX) hits the market on Jun 12, 2026, at an estimated price of $135 USD a share.
At that price, SpaceX will open with a valuation of roughly $1.77 trillion USD — making this one of the biggest IPOs ever to hit the Nasdaq. If you've been waiting to own a piece of it, here's what you can expect.
When can you start trading SPCX and SPCX.TO?
Nasdaq opens at 9:30am ET, but SPCX will take a little longer to get going. Before a newly listed stock starts trading, the exchange and underwriters run through price discovery — matching real buy and sell orders to set an opening price. For an IPO this size, that process typically wraps up late morning to early afternoon.
Starting at 4:00 am ET this Friday, you can submit orders for SPCX — however, please note that we will only accept limit orders until the stock officially begins trading. Once the market is live, all other order types will become available.
When will SPCX options be available?
Options on newly listed stocks typically become available 3 to 14 days after listing, once the exchange sets strike prices and builds out contracts. For a listing this high-profile, expect it on the quicker end of that range.
Can you short sell SPCX right away?
Short selling requires us to confirm we can borrow shares first, which becomes possible once early trades begin to settle. Assuming a borrow becomes available, short selling on SPCX should open up starting Monday, June 15. Alternatively, you can trade options once available.
Fractional SPCX shares and Overnight trading: what's available?
Fractional SPCX shares are available once the stock officially begins trading. As mentioned above, you can place limit orders as early as 4:00 am ET this Friday, and we'll support fractional trading once the market is live. Overnight trading starts Sunday night, June 14 — so you don't have to wait for Monday.
Will SPCX be added to major indices like the Nasdaq-100 and S&P 500?
Yes — and sooner than you might think.
SpaceX is expected to join the Nasdaq-100 and FTSE Russell indices as early as the end of June 2026, depending on market conditions. If you currently hold ETFs tracking those indices — such as QQQ or a Russell 3000 fund — you might gain indirect SPCX exposure, assuming the stock meets all necessary market capitalization and pricing requirements for fast-track index inclusion.
Inclusion in the S&P 500 is likely to occur at a later date. This index requires four consecutive quarters of profitability under GAAP accounting, alongside minimum market capitalization and float thresholds. Consequently, SpaceX might not be eligible for consideration until mid-2027 at the earliest.
Want to invest in space on your own terms?
Buying SPCX shares is one way in. With Custom Indexing, you can choose your exposure on an index level, too. While some ETFs and indices are fast-tracking its inclusion, forcing you into owning it, a Custom Index puts you in control of whether it's in or out.
Choose from a library of broad-market or thematic index templates — including one focused on space stocks — and make it your own. Adjust sectors. Add or cut stocks. Own it all with no trading commissions or management fees.

OPEN AN ACCOUNTA note on day-one price movement
IPO day prices can move quickly as the market establishes an opening price. Please be aware that limit orders are required prior to the IPO starting to trade and during any trading halts. Once the stock begins trading, market orders will be accepted.
IPO vs. pre-IPO — what's the difference?
When SpaceX starts trading on June 12, that's the IPO. The company lists on a public exchange, a price is set by the market, and anyone with a brokerage account can buy shares.
Pre-IPO is a different game entirely. It means owning a piece of the company while it's still private — getting in before the hype, the ticker, and the daily price swings. The upside is clear: you're positioning yourself at the ground floor of a company's growth trajectory, often before it hits the mainstream radar.
That early access comes with trade-offs. These shares are less liquid than public stock, meaning they're harder to trade on a whim. And since there's no live market signal, you're relying on your own conviction rather than a ticker tape to value the company. It's a higher-conviction, longer-term play.
Questrade is bringing pre-IPO access this summer. Stay tuned.
