Important FHSA Contribution Deadlines
Learn about key contribution dates for your FHSA. Must read to make sure your contributions are captured correctly.
The FHSA contribution deadline for the 2025 tax year is 11:59 pm in your time zone on December 31, 2025. Here's a breakdown of how different deposit methods are handled:
Online bill payment
- Payments received on December 31, 2025, will count as a 2025 contribution. Please review your transaction history to confirm.
- Payments typically take 1-2 business days to arrive from major banks. December 29, 2025 is the final date to contribute to an FHSA by online bill payment to make sure it counts for the 2025 tax year. Funds need to be deposited to your account by this date, so that your contribution can be booked in time.
- For payments received after the deadline, you'll need to provide proof that the funds were sent in 2025 to have them backdated. You have until January 16, 2026, to provide this information.
- If your payment requires additional information, you have until January 16, 2026, to provide the requested details.
Wire transfer
- Payments received on or by December 31, 2025, will count as a 2025 contribution. Please review your Transaction history to confirm.
- If your payment requires additional information, you have until January 16, 2026, to provide the requested details.
Instant deposit
- Payments received by 11:59 pm in your time zone on December 31, 2025, will count as a 2025 contribution. Please review your transaction history to confirm.
- Payments can take up to two hours to arrive in some cases.
- If your payment requires additional information, you have until January 16, 2026, to provide the requested details.
Pre-authorized deposits (PAD)
- PADs can be set up until 11:59 pm EST on December 24, 2025, and as long as your deposit date is December 31, 2025, it will be counted as a 2025 contribution. If the deposit is for more than $10,000 and there is a hold, it will be automatically backdated. Please review your transaction history to confirm.
- If the PAD is set up after 11:59 pm EST on December 24, 2025, you cannot select a processing date of December 31, 2025, and therefore, it will not be considered a 2025 contribution. In this case, consider using online bill payment.
Transfer of funds/positions
- As long as the submission date of your transfer request for settled funds/positions is before 11:59 pm in your time zone on December 31, 2025, we will backdate the request.
Non-certified cheque/bank draft
- When you mail in a cheque or bank draft, the post office typically timestamps the envelope. Until January 16, 2026, we will check the timestamp on the envelope. If the stamp is after the December 31st, 2025 FHSA contribution deadline, it will not count as a 2025 contribution.
- We encourage you to utilize other deposit methods for faster processing.
Third-party deposits
- If your payment requires additional information (e.g., is not in good order), you have until January 16, 2026, to provide the requested details. Please review your transaction history to confirm.
Contribution receipts (T4FHSA)
- Your T4FHSA will be available in your account by the end of the day on February 28, 2026.
