Connecting your accounts to Balance Sheet in the Questrade app

3 min read

Balance Sheet brings your accounts from different financial institutions into one view in our mobile app, so you can see your assets, liabilities, and net worth in one place. This article shows you how to connect your bank accounts and properties to your Balance Sheet.

Before you start

  • You need our mobile app on iOS version 2.0.0 or Android version 2.0.0. Balance Sheet is currently not available through the web portal.

  • You need to be signed in to your Questrade account.

  • Have the sign-in details for each bank or institution you want to connect.

Your Questrade accounts are already on your Balance Sheet. They load automatically, so there is nothing to connect for those. You only connect accounts held at other institutions.

What can you connect to your Balance Sheet

You can connect accounts held at other Canadian banks and institutions. This includes: chequing, savings, investment, credit card, mortgage, and loan accounts. Your home value is estimated and added through our home-valuation partner, Zolo.

You cannot add accounts by uploading a document or filling in a form. A secure sign-in is required to connect your accounts.

Connect an account

  1. Open our mobile app and select the Balance Sheet tab from the homepage.

  2. Select Link your accounts. To add a property instead, select Add your home.

  3. Choose your financial institution from the list.

  4. After you choose your institution, a secure connection window opens from, Flinks, or Wealthica. Follow the provider’s prompts to continue and log in to your financial institution.

  5. Select the account(s) you want to connect, then tap Continue

  6. Once your accounts successfully connect, select Add another to link another institution, or tap Continue to return to your Balance Sheet

Your connected accounts appear on your balance sheet, and your net worth updates to include them.

Flinks, and Wealthica are financial data services that securely connect your banking and investment accounts to external apps, allowing you to safely share your financial data.

These services are used across the financial industry and connect to your institution using bank-level security. They use read-only access, so they can read account information to build your Balance Sheet but cannot move your money.

Manage your connected accounts

After an account is connected, here’s what you can do from your Balance Sheet:

  • View it: see your account’s current balance.

  • Refresh it: pull the latest data from your financial institution(s) so your balances are up to date.

  • Reconnect it: restore the link if the connection requires re-verification or is out of date.

  • Add another account: connect another account or add a new financial institution to your Balance Sheet.

  • Remove an account: disconnect an account you no longer want linked to your Balance Sheet.

What to do if something goes wrong

Your bank is not in the list

While all major Canadian financial institutions are available to connect, some smaller institutions, like local credit unions, may not be available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The connection failed during sign-in

If you see an error screen while signing in, close it and start the connection again from step 3. Check that the sign-in details you entered match the ones for your bank.

An account shows as disconnected or out of date

Connections can break when you change your bank password, when your bank requires you to sign in again, or when your bank requires two-factor authentication. Open the account in Balance Sheet and tap Reconnect to restore it.
