Understanding your Balance Sheet: your whole financial picture in one view

3 min read

Balance Sheet lives in the Questrade mobile app and brings everything you own and owe into one real-time view. Your Questrade accounts are already on it; you add the accounts you hold elsewhere.

What is a Balance Sheet?

Balance Sheet is a real-time view of your complete financial position. Your assets are what you own. Your liabilities are what you owe. The difference between them is your net worth. Your Balance Sheet builds that picture automatically and keeps it current as your money moves.

What is included

  • Your Questrade accounts: automatically added for you

  • External accounts you link: connect accounts from other Canadian financial institutions.

  • Your home value: add your address for an estimated home value from Zolo, and link your mortgage to view your home equity.

Every account sits in one of four categories, which is what lets your balance sheet add up correctly:

  • Short-term assets (chequing)

  • Long-term assets (savings, investments, property)

  • Short-term liabilities (credit cards and debt due within a year)

  • Long-term liabilities (a mortgage or debt due later)

You can also view your assets by type across Cash, Investments, Real Estate.

How to read the numbers at the top

  • Total Net Worth: Total Assets minus Total Liabilities. The one number that answers "what am I worth right now."

  • Liquid Net Worth: the money you could reach without selling property or other long-term holdings. A read on your near-term flexibility.

  • Debt-to-Asset ratio: how much of your picture is tied up in debt. A lower ratio means less of what you own is owed. Watching it over time shows whether you are paying debt down or taking more on.

Tap into any category to see the accounts inside it and the details that matter for each: balance, institution, interest rate, and last refresh. Investment accounts add holdings and gains; loans and mortgages add rate, payment, and maturity.

Watching your picture change over time

Once you link at least one external account, you can view your net worth history from a single day out to five years, with one year as the default, as a dollar amount or a percentage, and per category. End-of-day snapshots are saved automatically, so the history builds itself.

If a connection breaks

If a connection breaks, your Balance Sheet flags that institution and notes your net worth may be temporarily out of date. You can refresh or reconnect it on its own.
