How to use Hot Buttons on Questrade Pro

Hot Buttons are trade buttons that sit alongside your Questrade Pro chart. Set one up with a direction, order type, quantity, and trade. Click or use your keyboard shortcut when you want to trade.

They're for active traders who want fewer steps between a decision and an order.

How to set up your first Hot Button

  1. Open the Chart widget in Questrade Pro. The Hot Buttons panel is on the right hand side.
  2. Click the gear icon to open Settings.
  3. Set your default account and quantity.
  4. Click the + icon beside Templates to create a template. You can add up to 3 quantity shortcuts and choose which trade and account action buttons you want displayed.
  5. Bind keyboard shortcuts to your buttons if you'd like.
  6. Close the settings window. Your selections are saved automatically.

How to use Hot Buttons

  1. Open the Chart widget and search for the security you want to trade.
  2. Your default settings will be applied, but you can adjust:
    • The account you want to trade from
    • The template
    • Your quantity
  3. To skip the order confirmation window, enable Auto Send.
  4. When you're ready, click a button or use your keyboard shortcut.

Note: Hot Buttons and keyboard shortcuts only execute trades for the chart that is currently in focus.

Auto Send

By default, clicking a Hot Button opens a confirmation screen before the order is submitted. Auto Send skips that step.

Turning it on

  • Click the Auto Send checkbox in the Hot Buttons panel.
  • A one-time warning will appear explaining that orders are sent immediately.
  • Accept it to enable Auto Send.
  • Each new chart defaults to Auto Send off.

Important: When Auto Send is on, clicking a Hot Button sends the order immediately. Only enable it if you're comfortable trading without that step.

Turning it off

Click the Auto Send checkbox again. Hot Button orders will return to showing the confirmation screen before being submitted.

Keyboard shortcuts

Bind any Hot Button to a key and trade without leaving the chart.

How to add a shortcut

  1. Go to the Hot Buttons settings page.
  2. Click Keyboard shortcuts.
  3. Open the button you want to bind.
  4. Click the shortcut field and press the key you want to assign.
  5. Your selections will save automatically when you close the window.

Shortcuts are global but only fire on the active chart where Hot Buttons are enabled. If you have multiple charts open, the shortcut applies to whichever is currently in focus. Some browser-reserved keys can't be bound; the interface will let you know if a key isn't available.

Selecting the trading account

The panel has an account selector. Pick which account your orders go to. It remembers your choice between sessions.

Which security does a Hot Button trade?

Hot Buttons apply to the symbol shown in the charts symbol selector, which syncs automatically with the active chart. You can also change the symbol manually.

Bracket orders

Placing a bracket order trade is not currently supported, but on our roadmap for future development. However, if there is an open bracket order, you may use Hot Buttons to cancel the order.
