Opening an account

Learn how to open an account using QuestMobile.

Opening your first Questrade account with the QuestMobile app is easy, straightforward, and should take less than 15-20 minutes to complete. We’ve created this short guide to help walk you through the steps required when getting started.

Please note: The information shown in this article may vary slightly from your experience as we work to improve the overall account opening process.

Before you get started

Here’s what you’ll need before starting your application.

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)

At this time, you can open the following accounts through the QuestMobile app:

Creating your Profile Pt. 1

Please follow these steps to complete the first part of your account application. Once you finish these four steps, your progress will be saved, and you can come back to finish your application at any time.

  1. Enter your full legal name as it appears on your ID
  2. Next, enter your email address and your phone number
  3. Please agree to receive personalized communications from us
  4. Create a unique username and password

On the next page, you will have the option to enter an offer code. To learn more about these, you can read more here.

Tip: Make your username easy to remember, but hard to guess. Your password must also contain at least one uppercase character, one lowercase, a number or symbol, and must be at least 8 characters long. For additional account security after set-up, you can also make changes to your 2-step verification options, and add a mobile authenticator if desired.

Account set-up

After you complete the steps above, you’ll be asked to choose between self-directed investing (do your own trading/investing) or Questwealth Portfolios (a pre-built portfolio that’s managed for you), as well as which account type (TFSA, RRSP, etc.) you’re opening. We will outline the account opening process for both below, starting with self-directed accounts. To jump to the Questwealth Portfolios section, you can click here.  (button to jump to questwealth)

The following account types are available through the Questmobile app. For any other account type,  please continue your application with a mobile web browser, or a laptop/desktop computer.

The opening process will differ depending on if you are opening a self-directed account or a Questwealth portfolio.
